About the BBA

BBA logo The British Bankers’ Association (BBA) is the leading trade association in the banking and financial services industry representing banks and other financial services firms operating in the UK. It has hundreds of members, as well as many associate members, which fund its not-for-profit activities.

The commercial arm of the BBA provides a value-added service by producing industry training, publications and conferences. This work helps the industry keep abreast of regulatory and legal changes and provides cost effective solutions to training requirements. In doing this the BBA generated income in excess of £1.8 million in the year 2000, subsidising subscription fees for members.

What they wanted

The BBA wanted more than just a cost-efficient content management system. They wanted a team who could share their vision, to deliver a 24 x 7 managed solution, and thus create a user community for both members and public alike. Using personalisation, e-commerce and contact management, they wanted a company who would be able to architect, build and manage the systems whilst at the same time add strategic ideas to improve and enhance the BBA’s own business model with sound technical strategies and business ideas.

How we responded

Having initially consulted on the first phase, Wrenhill knew that the key to the entire solution was to build a reliable and permanent infrastructure on an open-source/Java platform that could then have extra functionality implemented as and when required at the most cost-efficient price. Wrenhill offered a fast migration path to the Polopoly Content Management platform to ease the current burden of managing the site, introducing workflow into the publishing process, as well as incorporating agreed recommendations from the usability and accessibility study to improve navigation and access.

By introducing member bulletin boards and facilities for interaction between working group members as well as improved document publishing the site will see usage increase in late 2003 and lay the foundations for the subsequent identified requirements for on-line registration, working group interaction and integration with other internal systems.

By offering a flexible platform to allow cost efficient and easy implementation of all new requirements, the high quality solution using open standards and industry best practice products and methods provides the most cost efficient implementation and low ongoing cost of ownership. With our industry leading expertise in content management and systems infrastructure as well as managing the entire platform 24x7, Wrenhill offered that one-stop solution and expertise the BBA were looking for.
