Working directly for News Internationals’ three hottest properties, The Sun, The Times and News of the World, we were commissioned to write the ultimate World Cup football application – a java scoreboard on mobile phones that would offer all the news, views, images and results.
Action
A single application was built that ran on over 70% of java handsets at that time. The entire system from content back end to data feed handlers was written in 10 short weeks – during the tournament it scaled to 100,000 concurrent sessions.
Performance
Going live ten days before the tournament started, the system was hailed a technological success by David Saidman, CEO of the responsible News International division. Versions of the application were branded and deployed across all three titles. Fully managed and maintained 24x7 by Wrenhill during the live operation out of News Internationals' own hosting centre. Now available as "iScore"
